Traditional Shotokan Karate
Traditional Karate is an ancient weaponless martial art in which
the training of both the mind and body in unison is emphasized. Karate
is a practical system of self-defense based on the use of the entire body
as one unit. The synchronization of muscle contraction and release, along
with proper breathing and posture, allows for the ability to create tremendous
force when executing blocking and striking techniques.
Also, Traditional Shotokan Karate is practiced as a non-contact martial art. There is contact of the blocking arm to the offensive attack, but the karate practitioner does not wear protective pads of any kind, and great emphasis is put on being able to control your technique to ensure the safety of all who train in the dojo. In Karate, there are many important physical conditions that are stressed such as correct posture, muscular strength, breath control, flexibility, and speed. But, of equal importance are the mind and the spirit. Five goals of karate training are: Courage, Courtesy, Integrity, Humility, and Self-control. As instructors, we will constantly be trying to achieve mastery of these goals along with you.
Traditional Karate sessions are taught by head instructors Laura Ocampo, 4th Dan, and Luis Miguel Ocampo, 3rd Dan. Visit the About Sensei page for more.
